The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Site, on South Promenade, close to Newcastle harbour, of a public toilet (of possibly c.1925), now removed. The structure was described in the first survey of July 1972 as ‘constructed of decorated cast iron panels between slim cylindrical uprights. Top panel, with ventilator perforation, is surmounted by a small decorative cornice with lion masks. The roof is glazed with a [?]raised centre’.
The toilet is believed to have been removed in the early 1990s.
Historical information
The public toilet formerly on this site may have been dated from c.1925 (it does not appear to be shown on the OS map of 1923), and was undoubtedly put in place by the Newcastle UDC. The structure is believed to have been removed in the early 1990s.

Site of small cast iron constructed public toilet of perhaps c.1925, with geometric, almost Pictish looking decoration to outer panels and a hipped an mainly glazed roof. The toilet is believed to have removed in the early 1990s.
