The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Although without a makers name, this fountain is of similar style to the standard Glenfield and Kennedy fountain. It has a plain shaped column with fluted decoration and a fluted cap with an acorn finial. It is apparently supplied by a well at Tullyratty. It still works.
Historical information
Installed by the Rural District Council c1935. Further particulars in the EHS Report 'Water Pumps in Northern Ireland: A Preliminary Survey' by Fred Hammond, January 1997, Pump no. 25.
In 2006 a local resident said that it had been taken away but was returned after local protest. It is no longer connected to a water supply..

Evaluation
A good example of a water fountain in a prominent position in a conservation area. It is an important reminder of the time when drinking water was only available from a public source.
