Exterior description and setting

Typical late Victorian style two storey gabled house of c.1880. The property is set to the NE of Church Road, on the southern outskirts of Ballynahinch.

The front façade faces SW and is symmetrical. To the centre of the ground floor is a panelled front door which is framed with simple pilasters and moulded elliptical archivolt with keystone. To either side of the doorway are paired elliptical headed window arrangements dressed with moulded surrounds (which match that to the door) with both windows resting on a shared window cill. Window frames are plain sash. To first floor is a central paired window as before but much narrower. To left and right are single windows as before.

The gables of the main building to NW and SE are both blank. Both have overhanging eaves and decorative pierced barge boards.

To the centre of the rear NE elevation is flat roofed single storey return. To the NE face is a large modern picture window opening. At ground level to the left of this face is a curious segmental opening, which has a stone lined interior. To the right side of the NW of the return is a timber sheeted door while to the left side of its SE face is a small square window opening with fixed light frame.

To the left of the return (on the façade of the main house) is a segmental arch headed window opening with a sash window frame with vertical astragals. To first floor left is a similar but shorter window. Centred and directly above the return is a semicircular window opening with a margin panes and horizontal astragals. To the right of the return is a segmental headed window as before to first floor while to ground floor is a recently added wide modern window opening.

The front façade and gables are finished in lined render and painted. The rear façade and return are mainly finished in plain unpainted render. The roof has an overhang to the gables and front is covered in Bangor Blue slates. Decorative barge boards. Exposed rafter ends to front. To each end of the ridge is a large chimney stack with moulded coping and an assortment of pots. Cast iron and PVC rw goods.

To the rear is a large two storey outhouse which attaches to the rear of the main house by a yard wall and a single storey outhouse with mono-pitched roof.

This house was probably built in c.1880.
