The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Cowtailed (closed head) lever type pump with a straight shaped column with spiral decoration. The cap is fluted with acorn finial. The pump is inscribed ‘Hugh Dale Plumber Banbridge’ around the top. The adjacent well cover inscribed ‘Banbridge Foundry’. The pump is set into a roadside alcove and is still in everyday use. The walling is blackstone random rubble with rock-faced, margin dressed granite copings.

Good example of a cow tailed water pump in a prominent position. The well detailed surrounding wall alcove adds to its importance and it is a reminder of the time when drinking wwater was only available in the street.
