Exterior description and setting

Demolished 11th November 1997. Now replaced by the rear extension to the First Trust Bank (see HB16/28/035). The building was surveyed before demolition and was described as follows.

Two storey (+ attic) house with cast iron lattice windows situated on The Mall.

Pitched and artificial tiled roof with concrete brick chimney rising across ridge, parallel to facade to left of roof. Left gable has a modern timber bargeboard (adjacent property has been demolished).

Wall to façade is uncoursed granite rubble, partially dashed. Main entrance is to extreme ground floor right. Door is timber sheeted with narrow transom over. Centred to ground floor is an eight paned metal casement window (bricked up from within). There are single windows to each floor above. Each is central and consists of a pair of lattice cast iron casements set in timber frames. The timber head to each window frame is cut to reflect the decorative pattern of the lattice casement below. Both windows are set within a (landscape) rectangular opening with painted granite cill. Right gable is party wall with adjoining building, and left gable is pebbledashed.

Rear elevation as façade. There is a single storey return with mono-pitched roof abutting to ground floor left. Rear wall has a small single 3/3 sliding sash window to ground floor right and one to each floor above. To first floor left is a small 2/2 sliding sash window. There is a window and door on right cheek of return and its roof continues to enclose an outhouse, and outside toilet. .
