The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A one-storey building with Belfast truss roof, with gable fronting south side of Edward St.
Curved roof covered with corrugated metal and corrugated plastic sheets and with plastic rainwater goods. Cement rendered walls over random granite rubble, built up to stepped parapet along street frontage. At left side of this elevation is a large vehicle entrance, with a smaller modern door to right.
The building is roughly 34.3m in length.
Historical information
Although there was a building hereabouts in the 19th century, the present structure first appears in the 1911 Valuation Revision book. It is cited as a ‘shed’ belonging to John McArevey, who is described in a contemporary street directory as a cabinet maker and furniture remover. The building may well have been used to store furniture.
For background information about the Belfast Roof Trusses, see HB18/08/139.
