Exterior description and setting
Situated on verge on left side of main Belfast road. A cast-iron plaque with pointed head set into a finely dressed granite post of similar profile and secured with two wrought-iron bolts to back of stone. The plaque measures 30cm wide and 34cm on side (46cm to apex). Raised 4cm high text reads “Dublin 51/ Newry 1/ Banbridge 9” (Irish mile distances).
Historical information
This milepost is very similar to that in Hill St, Newry (HB16/28/078), and lies along the main Banbridge – Newry turnpike road. Although not marked on the 1858 OS 6” map, it is probably of early 19th century date.

A cast-iron plaque with pointed head set into a finely dressed granite post. One of several milestones of similar design on what was once the main Belfast – Dublin turnpike road. An interesting example, in a prominent roadside position.
