Exterior description and setting

One and a half storey/ four bay house facing south on north side of Rathfriland Road.

Pitched natural slate roof with three gabled dormers to road facade. There is a cement rendered chimney to each gable and a third between third and fourth bays from left. Rainwater goods are half-round plastic.

All walls are rendered in modern wet dash. The main entrance is in a slightly projecting flat roofed porch in third bay (at right of centre) on main façade. Door is modern stained six-panel timber with transom over. There is a single modern top-hung 1/1 timber window to each of the three room bays at ground floor. At first floor, inset into each gable dormer, is a similar top-hung timber window.

Each gable is dashed as facade. Right gable is abutted by a later single storey shed with corrugated metal roof. Both gables have two modern timber top-hung windows.

Rear elevation not inspected.

Setting

Small garden with mature shrubs to front with wet dashed wall to road. Ashlar granite pier at right end of wall (with projecting pyramidal granite cap). Metal gates opposite porch with dashed posts (dressed pyramidal granite caps).

Historical information

First depicted as ‘Nursery House’ on 1858 OS map, indicating a mid-19th century erection date.
