Exterior description and setting

Three storey two bay house, central unit of a terrace of three on east side of Canal Street.

Pitched natural slate roof has a single concrete copped red brick chimney to right. Semicircular metal rainwater goods with downpipe to right (shared with no 109).

West elevation (façade) is lined render with corbelled eaves and three wall plates, one to ground floor and two to first floor. Main entrance is to ground floor left. Single granite step to door which has been boarded up using a second two-paneled door. To ground floor right is a single window opening (boarded over) with painted granite cill. Upper floor windows are not in line with ground floor openings and all are painted timber exposed box sliding sashes and have painted granite cills. To first floor are two 6/6 windows and to second floor are two 3/3 windows, in line with those on first floor but diminished in height. Many of the front window panes are broken and building is open to the elements.

North (no.113) and south (no.109) gables form party walls with adjacent properties.

Rear is smooth rendered and there are two windows to each upper floor (ground floor not inspected). There are two exposed box 6/6 sliding sashes to first floor and two (diminished in height) 3/3 exposed box sashes to second floor.

Historical information

Shown on the 1835 OS town map and noted in the 1838 Valuation as being occupied by Robert McEvoy and measuring 5ft x 23ft x 25ft. Quality letter (1A) suggests that constructed in early 19th century. Valuation of 1863 notes a three-storey building with similar plan dimensions (undoubtedly the same building).

Relatively unaltered terrace house but not of special architectural or historic interest. The group is compromised as a terrace by the shop front to No 113 (HB16/25/025C).
