Exterior description and setting
This memorial was surveyed in the First Survey but not listed. A partial record only was taken during the Second Survey as the memorial is not worthy of a full survey. Polished granite pedestal type memorial located in Charlemont Square and is inscribed on three of its four sides.
Main inscription reads: ‘this town was lighten by electricity A.D. 1911 as a token of regard for its inhabitants and in loving memory of John Crubb Richardson B. 1813 D. 1890. At one time sole owner of Bessbrook. By his sons James Nicholson Richardson. Thomas Wakefield Richardson. Work was superintended by Herbert Dowell A.M.I.M.E engineer and carried out by John Jackson, William Black, George Blakeley, Ishmael Hanratty’.
