The Department's description

A much altered and extended rectangular one-and-a-half storey gate lodge to Hawthorn Hill (HB16/15/002A) at the foot of Slieve Gullion.

Pitched natural slate roof with raised flat rear section and central brick chimneystack. Overhanging boxed eaves support half-round plastic rainwater goods.

Principal elevation faces E. Walls are coursed granite rubble. Cement dashed rear elevation. All windows are modern uPVC top-hung casements. Front elevation has three windows with dressed granite lintels and cills – the central one was once the entrance door.

Left gable has a window to upper floor and one to each floor of the return at left. It is abutted to left by a single-storey annex.

Rear elevation is completely abutted by a modern two-storey return, the ground floor of which is abutted by an annex. Both are of no interest.

Right gable has a window to upper floor and a modern glazed timber entrance door to rear return.

First appears in the Valuation revision book entry for 1873.
