The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Three storey / two bay house set in a larger terrace on Osborne Promenade.
Pitched artificial slate roof with cement rendered chimney on right gable. Half round plastic rainwater goods.
Walls are lined rendered and painted.
Front elevation is to Osborne Promenade and faces SW. Right bay is narrower than the left one and contains the modern timber front door with transom light over. To left bay is a modern bow window with flat lead roof. There are two modern 1/1 top-hung timber windows to each upper floor, all with thin concrete cills. Diminished in height to second floor. A rendered and coped dwarf wall encloses small front garden.
The left gable abuts Great George’s Street South (HB16/12/024D).
The right gable abuts Osborne Promenade (HB16/12/026B).
Rear elevation not inspected.
Historical information
A building is shown on this plot on the 1834 OS 6” map, along with the rest of this terrace. Noted in the 1835 First Valuation as measuring 21ft x 19ft6in x 11ft6in. The Valuation books suggest that it was rebuilt in the early 1860s – it was extant in 1864 and first occupied in 1870.
