Exterior description and setting

A derelict one-storey/ two-bay vernacular dwelling accessed by a hollow way up from stream to west. Pitched natural slate roof (graduated slates). Rendered chimney to centre of ridge and a low brick chimney to east gable. No rainwater goods. Walls of random Silurian rubble (unpainted and unrendered). Clay mortar extensively used on inner skin of walls (but lime mortar to outside)

Principal elevation faces south. Windbreak entrance porch with catslide natural slate roof on left side of right bay; door missing. Window opening to right of door and another to centre of left bay; frames missing. Walls otherwise blank except for a small infilled window opening at left on rear elevation.

Historical information

House with this footprint shown on 1834 OS 6” map; not valued (i.e. under £5). Valuation shows no change from 10s between c.1862 and 1930. Evidence therefore suggests that the existing building is probably of early 19th C date.
