Exterior description and setting

A three-storey warehouse at bottom of hill on south side of John St. Pitched natural slate roof with tiled skews. Half-round plastic gutters with downpipes on gables. Boarded eaves. Walls of random rubble granite brought to courses.

The main facade faces N to the road. Originally it was symmetrical, but some openings have subsequently been infilled. There are five openings to the ground floor. That at left is a window opening, now infilled. The second is a modern pedestrian door. The third, at centre, is a large doorway with flat head and roller shutter. It appears to have been widened on its left side. Originally there was a window to its left, but this is completely infilled and rendered over. To the right of the main entrance is a segmental-headed doorway, also infilled. There is an infilled window opening at right. All these openings have rendered surrounds and are without cills (except at left, of concrete).

At first floor, three 1/1 top-hung uPVC windows flank an infilled and rendered over central loading door. Granite cills to all windows. The openings to the second floor are as below but diminished in height. The original gablet above the door has been removed and the void slated over. An electric light projects from the right end of its head.

The left and right gables are blank.

The rear elevation is smooth cement rendered and has an advanced rendered eaves course. There are two small window openings to the ground floor. The left one is infilled and the other contains a 1/1 top-hung window. There are two original window openings, both now infilled, to the first floor, and a third modern one at right containing a 1/1 top-hung window. There are two original openings to the second floor, in line with those below and also infilled.

Historical information

Valuation book suggests that it was probably erected in 1911.
