The Department's description

Small single-storey building set into west-facing bank below lodges (HB16/02/018). Of rock-faced granite blocks in irregular courses over chamfered base and with moulded granite eave courses under projecting flat concrete roof. Tooled edges to quoins and ashlar granite door/ window surrounds (cills chamfered). Plain door in north wall. Three-paned windows (vertically divisions) in all but the bank wall.

Original drawings show a pelton turbine supplied with a 3'' diameter pipe. This would have been linked to an electricity generator and possibly supplied the nearby lodges and bungalows. It was probably erected in 1923.

Primary source:
1. Mr S.J. Graham, DOE Silent Valley.
2. Original drawing in SOE Water Service, Westland House, Old Westland Road, Belfast (cat. No. 2D67).

This structure's primary interest lies in the fact that it is one of several buildings in the Silent Valley to predate the actual reservoir, along with the Water Superintendent's house (HB16/02/017) and lodges (HB16/02/018).
