Exterior description and setting

A four-bay single-storey whitewashed mud walled corrugated metal roofed (former thatched) lobby entry vernacular dwelling constructed pre 1835 and extended to the north between 1835 and 1860.
Located off the Mullahead Road approximately 4.8km south-east of Portadown set back from the road verge behind a hawthorn hedge. A large landscaped garden extends to the east and north-east comprising mature trees, an ornamental pond and relatively recently constructed stone follies.

Windows are 6/3 timber sliding sash (with horns) unless otherwise noted. Some historic glazing has survived intact. Vertically sheeted timber half-doors, whitewashed mud walls and pitched corrugated metal roof with raised skews and clipped eaves having galvanised metal rainwater goods where present.

Front (north-west) elevation has a catslide windbreak porch with a vertically sheeted timber half-door flanked by a single window to left. Bay to far left and bay to right of door has a single window. Far right bay has a vertically sheeted timber half-door to left and a single window to right. Chimney to north gable and to cross wall between middle bays, both are centred on ridge and have no pots.

North-east gable is blank.

South-west gable has a central seven-pane ocular window at loft level and is abutted by a single storey open-sided lean-to of little interest.

Rear (east) elevation has a slightly projecting windbreak with vertically sheeted timber half-door flanked by a single window to left. Far left bay has a single bipartite cast iron lattice window. Bay to right of door has a window to right and a diminutive fixed six-pane timber window to left. Far right bay has a single window.

Setting:
Located off the Mullahead Road approximately 4.8km south-east of Portadown set back from the road verge behind a hawthorn hedge. Site is accessed through a pair of wrought iron gates hung from cylindrical whitewashed stone piers with dome tops. A large landscaped garden extends to the east and north-east comprising mature trees, an ornamental pond and relatively recently constructed stone follies.

Historical information

A building is indicated on the 1st Edition OS Map in the same location on the site as that of the current property. The 2nd Edition OS Map shows a building with a larger footprint to that of the 1st Edition implying that the property was extended by a further bay to the north. There are no further discernible changes to the footprint on the 3rd Edition OS Map and the current footprint of the property does not appear to have changed since the 2nd Edition OS Map.
The dwelling house is currently vacant.

Located off the Mullahead Road approximately 4.8km south-east of Portadown set back from the road verge and accessed through a pair of wrought iron gates hung from cylindrical whitewashed stone piers with dome tops. A large landscaped garden extends to the east and north-east. It has a fine and relatively unaltered exterior and interior and the retention of some historic roof timbers and historic glazing is of interest. It is an example of an increasingly rare typology that once characterised the local area.
