Exterior description and setting

A single-storey four bay hearth lobby thatched dwelling, with attic, aligned roughly E-W set to NE of Clonshannagh Td.

Thatched roof with cement-rendered skews and four brick chimneys – one to each gable and one between bays 2 and 3 and bays 3 and 4.

Principal elevation faces S. Walls are lime-rendered random rubble. Set to right of bay 2 is a projecting entrance porch with flat roof. Modern glazed timber door with matching sidelights with concrete cills; left and right cheeks are blank. To its left is a 1/1 sliding sash window with horns and painted cill. Left bay has a similar window. Each remaining bay has a modern timber casement window.

Left gable is blank.

Rear elevation has a window to left bay, a porch set to left of centre , and to its right are three windows – all are 2x3 metal framed casements without cills.

Right gable has a window to attic level

Historical information

A building is shown on this site on the 1834 / 35 OS map, but not included in the contemporary valuation. It is recorded in the second valuation of 1862, however, with James Bavis listed as the occupant, John McClintock Esq the immediate lessor, with the rateable value calculated at £1-5-0.

A single-storey four bay hearth lobby thatched house, with attic, aligned roughly E-W and set to NE of Clonshannagh Td. Set well back from the road in concealed site and accessed by long lane. It appears to be refurbished internally and thatch is in need of repair.
