The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Two small segmental arches carry the Clones - Cavan road over the Finn River. The north-east half is in Co Monaghan. The abutments, pier and angled cutwaters (to arch spring level on both sides) are of squared limestone rubble, and the spandrels of random rubble. The voussiors are of more finely dressed stone, with elongated keystones. The parapets have coping blocks with rustication to all faces. The inside surfaces of the south-west arch have been strengthened with a skin of concrete.
Historical information
A bridge is shown here on the 1834 OS 6" map. It is cited as Clonfad Bridge on the 1857 and 1907 editions. It is probably of earlier 19th century date.
