Exterior description and setting

Detached three-bay single-storey rendered house, built c.1920. Rectangular on plan, facing south, set on the west side of Hawthorn Road accessed by a lane.

Pitched natural slate roof, blue/black clay ridge tiles, central red brick chimneystack and cement verge to both gables. Cast-iron rainwater goods to projecting eaves course. Smooth cement rendered walling, rendered quoins to corners and similar detail to door and window openings. Camber-headed window openings with stone sills and 3/4 timber sliding sash windows.
Lane to east leading to Hawthorn Road.

Three-bay front elevation with door opening to east bay having timber door and glazed upper panel.

West gable is blank.

Rear north elevation obscured by vegetation.

East gable is blank.

Historical information

The house is first shown on the fourth edition OS map of 1935-7, as is a smaller building opposite the west elevation that has not survived. A previous building on the same site is shown on the 1833 and 1854 map editions. The 1906 edition shows the outline of the current house.

Valuation Revisions record the addition of the cottage in 1913, it is described as ‘house and land’, which is valued at £1.10s and occupied by John Mulholland. The property is leased from Omagh Rural District Council. The previous building on the site was a ‘house, offices and land’ which was valued at £0.15s, and was noted as being demolished or ‘down’ in 1896.

Detached three-bay single-storey rendered house, built c.1920. Rectangular on plan, facing south, accessed by a lane. A modest house retaining most of its original features including timber sash windows, original room layout and timber joinery. However, it is of a late date andnot of special architectural or historic interest.
