Exterior description and setting

A single span bridge with stone revetments and parpets.

The single span is of 5¼ metres. The bridge has lost its original arch and a series of flat reinforced concrete beams span the Ballymully River which means that most of the parapet walls have been rebuilt. Width between parapets 5 metres and length 14. The stonework is coursed grey rubble and was continuous with adjacent railway bridge.

Historical information

A bridge is shown here on the O.S. Map 1832. The railway bridge has been removed. The bridge takes its name from a former brewery which occupied the plot of land to the W and N of Turnaface Road. A modern house now occupies the site. The concrete beam structure must be several decades in existence.

Evaluation

Although the Brewery bridge has lost its stone arch, its stone parapets present a rustic picture across the Ballymull River and its association with a former Brewery, it deserves to be recorded.
