The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
This building has been demolished and replaced by single storey educational buildings.
Described in the first survey in 1970 as 'A rectangular building enclosing a central courtyard; the main elevation is single-storey; a basement is exposed on the other sides. The walls are of regular coursed rock-faced blackstone; the roof is slated over a moulded brick frieze and stone-modillioned eaves cornice. The gutter is decorated. The entrance is recessed in an eliptical arched opening; patterned pilasters rise to a moulded archivolt. The panelled door is flanked by side lights. There are stone quoins and a platband at ground floor level. Octagonal chimneys are paired. Very poor condition.'
Historical information
Appears on the OS map of 1832 beside a rope walk. The residence of Captain A. W. Stafford in the 1880s. Larne Technical College (HB06/11/012) was built in its grounds in 1957-59 occupying the space between it and the main road. Demolished in the 1970s or
1980s.
