Exterior description and setting

A large stone structure with battered front and sides laid out on a rectangular plan, built into the side of a steep hill, facing north-east and containing a pair of arched kiln openings in its main front. Walls of basalt and white limestone rubble; segmental arches to openings constructed of brickwork in three recessed stages; splayed reveals to main kiln recesses; rusted iron beam to innermost openings with brick spandrels above. Rusted metal railings to parapet on top; top of structure overgrown with grass; both charging holes brick lined and still open; area of top fenced off.

Setting: the kilns stand in the garden of a house, in a rural location on the edge of the village, set back a short distance form the main road and easily visible from it through the main gateway to the house and are seen against a background of a rough grassy hillside and mature trees.
