The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A small graveyard in a rural location, entered by a pair of stone gate piers mounted with an iron gate. The boundary is banked up and the enclosure contains the ruins of an ancient church of rectangular plan, built of rubble stone but without any surviving architectural features. There are a number of headstones in the graveyard and within the area of the church itself but none are of special historic or architectural interest. It stands in open countryside alongside a main road.
Historical information
Appears on OS map of 1831. The ruins are of the church of St John Ransevyn which was abandoned in the 16th century for the new church of St John at Ballyharry built c 1600.
The church ruin is an ancient monument, SMR: ANT47:3.
