Exterior description and setting
Plain two storey gabled house of c.1875 with a recently added single storey flat roofed extension to north gable and modern window frames and door. The property is set on the W side of Straidkilly Road, just N of the village of Glenarm.
The front elevation of the original section of the house faces E and is symmetrical. To the centre of the ground floor is a modern part glazed part panelled door. To the left is a window opening with a modern top opening timber frame; to the right is a similar window while to the first floor there are three similar windows. To the far right (N) is a modern flat roofed single extension; this has one large modern timber window to front. To the left (S) is a single storey gabled outbuilding. This has one double door opening to the left side.
The lower portion of the S gable is obscured by the gabled outbuilding while the above this it is blank. The lower section of the N gable is obscured by the single storey flat roofed extension. Above this the gable is blank.
To the centre of the rear elevation of the main two storey section there are two windows, as before, to the ground and first floors. To the left is a modern conservatory and a small flat roofed porch (both to the rear of the flat roofed section) while to the right the blank W face of the outbuilding.
The façade is finished in roughcast. The main roof is finished with natural slate and has a slight overhang to gables. The E face of the outbuilding roof is slated also. The W face of the outbuilding roof is in covered with a corrugated asbestos. PVC rw goods. Plain rendered chimneystack to each gable of the main section.
Historical information
The house is not shown on the OS map of 1858; but is shown on that of 1903. The owner stated that he believed that the property dated from 1875-76.
