Exterior description and setting

A terrace of 3 2½ storey 2 bay wide houses with basements.

No. 75 has 2 four panelled doors with rectangular fanlights, a multi-pane shop window and over a name fascia without lettering. Good fascia, framed, cornice and stopped ends. Shop vacant. Over 2 double hung sliding sash 2 pane windows with moulded architraves. Above 1st floor window a continuous ogee gutter on stringcourse to catch the short lengths of downpipes from the roof divided by 2 gabled dormers each with 2 double hung sliding sash 2 pane windows with moulded architraves and segmental heads. Dormers break eaves line and corbel course. ½ round gutters, natural slated roof and chimney stack at each end of ridge. House has basement.

House No. 77 is similar to No. 75 except at ground floor 2 no. double hung sliding sash 2 pane windows with moulded architraves.

House No. 79 is similar to No. 77 except at ground floor 1 large window consisting of 2 lights and with moulded architrave all round.

There is no name fascia but a small hanging sign.

There are basements in all three houses.

This terrace of 3 with its traditional dormer windows is in contrast to No. 69 to 73 but nevertheless maintains the building line of the longer terrace and adds interest if not harmony of form and detail.

The backs of the terrace have a series of back returns, having a double pitch, the other a lean-to roof. Windows are double hung sliding sash 2 pane and there is a single dormer to No. 75. Walls are smooth rendered and painted.

Historical information

Precise date of buildings not known but they appear for the first time on the OS map of 1935 which is the map of 1904 with revisions of 1921 and 1931 added; the buildings do not appear on the edition of 1904. On the basis of interior features in no. 79 which remain intact, namely original cast iron fireplaces, the buildings may be dated to the Edwardian era.

This is a terrace of three houses of Edwardian date, at least one of which appears to stand in a comparatively unaltered state, but which are of essentially simple design and are of no special historic interest.
