Exterior description and setting

A 3 bay wide 2 ½ storey house with basement and shopfront.

The shopfront, full width of house, has panelled, moulded pilasters on each side with capitals forming end frames to name fascia, with good Gothic lettering and top cornice. The large shop window is subdivided into 60 small panes, low cill with moulded plaster panels under. On right shopdoor, 2 lower vertical panels and upper part glazed as shop window. On the left 4 panelled door to living accommodation. Over each door and placed on the name fascia lantern lights.

At 1st floor 3 no. D/H S/S 2 pane windows with moulded plaster architraves rising from painted cills with 2 no. moulded corbels under each. Above an elongated recessed panel. Below the gutter a plain frieze. Roof natural slates with 3 closely spaced dormers in line with 1st floor windows, gabled with plain barges with slight overhang. Windows D/H S/S 2 pane. Wall finished in smooth rendering painted. Under the shop window recessed panels and a plaster plinth across the front of the building.

To the rear a narrow back return with double pitched roof, 3 storeys high including basement. Walls finished in roughcast and unpainted. Main roof slated with single large velux type rooflight.

Historical information

The building probably erected c 1880s. Building received grants in 1986 from EHS. and NIHE. It was renovated and extended to the rear at that time.
