The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Three former single storey cottages on Ballykelly Main street, all greatly renovated and possessing little or no architectural merit. No. 34 is closest to the building described in 1970. It has a central door with a cantelevered flat hood supported on scroll mouldings. A single casement to each side, three modern dormers above in a brown artificial slate roof. House extended to rear. No. 36 has a heavy mansard roof over a brown tiled shop front. No. 40 is now two storey with flat roof and terrible pebbledash.
Historical information
Pre 1830 cottages “harled and whitened walls and slate roofs. Entrance in square head opening flanked either side by D/H windows. Sheeted doors are surmounted by fine frame fanlights” (HB Records 1970). Cottages likely to be the remains of the eight cottages built by the Fishmongers Company in the village at the same time as the terrace of houses listed as HB02/10/004 circa 1828.

Evaluation
Group of cottages possibly of some historical interest but which in their present condition greatly detract from the architectural character of Ballykelly Village.
