The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A two storey three bay wide former land steward’s house on the McCorkell farm. Smooth rendered externally and colour washed, slated, gabled, recently renovated and character of building obscured. Applied concrete architraves in a classical style, well tended garden interupted by rendered walls with precast concrete copings stepping towards renovated rendered wall at road. P VC windows and rainwater goods.
Historical information
Probably erected around the time outbuildings were extended and dwelling house erected c1890s. Included in the listing of adjacent Ballyarnet (HB01/27/018) until 1991when it was delisted and repaired under a NIHE grant aided repair scheme. Slide of building from 1990 shows: openings largely as at present but with 12 pane sliding sashes in the first floor windows, a tripartite window to the living room (12 pane sash with 4 pane side lights). Internally building badly decayed but window linings and original fireplaces remained.
