The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a level landscape. This is probably a Catholic church listed by Synnott c. 1680 (Hore 1862, 68; 1921, 60) as a chapel dedicated to St George. The foundations of a rectangular structure (ext. dims 9m E-W; 4m N-S) are within a subrectangular grass-covered area with some trees (dims. 29m E-W; 12m N-S) defined by a straight road bank at W, a curved field bank and townland boundary with Ballydungan townland and Kilscoran parish at N, and a low bank (Wth 1 2m; H 0.3-0.5m) at S. There are no indications of burial, so the church may have been a chapel-of-ease to the parish churches of Kilscoran (WX048-014001-) c. 1.6km to the N and St. Iberius (WX048-045001-) c. 1.3km to the S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
