The National Monuments Service's description
Marked only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6 inch map where it is described as a ‘Gallán’. It is situated in a low-lying landscape just on the S side of an E-W road but its precise location is not known. It has been removed but a photograph (St Peter's Annual 1917, 31) shows a large standing stone that is narrower at the base than c. 1m over the ground. Measurements taken in 1940 are ‘2 feet 6 inches by 3 feet at the base (dims 0.75m x 0.9m), 2 feet 9 inches by 2 feet 6 inches (0.85m x 0.75m) at the top and 6 feet, 6 inches high (H c. 2m)’ OSFM).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
