The National Monuments Service's description
Ambrosetown was held by one knight’s fee. William Ambrois held it in 1247 and Adam Ameroys held it in 1324 from the Valence property. Around 1425 villa Ambrosie was held for the heir of Adam Ambros (Brooks 1950, 108-09), but by the 17th century Ambrosetown was held by the Neville family (Jeffrey 1979, 50). According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) Sir Edward FitzHarris owned 360 acres at Ambrosetown, but there is no mention of a castle (Simington 1953, 143). The fief probably never had a caput or centre, and the only possible castle in the parish is at Tullycanna (WX041-034----) c. 2.7 km to the N of the parish church (WX046-001001-).
