Ringfort - rath

The National Monuments Service's description

Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and a D-shaped feature (ext. dims c. 50m E-W; c. 40m N-S) on the 1925 ed. It is located on a slight S-facing slope with a W-E stream c. 100m to the S. It is described locally as a circular area defined by a low earthen bank with an outer fosse that was removed c. 1984. It is now a scrub-covered area where the fosse is visible as a wet area (diam. c. 38m). A test excavation (03E1448) recovered evidence of the fosse (Wth c. 6m) beneath re-deposited material (McLoughlin 2006).
