Situated on a slight E-facing slope and on the S side of a minor E-W road. The Roman Catholic church of Ballykelly that was known as Kilmacree, was built in 1797 on land donated by Jacob Poole, and it closed in 1858.The remains consist of a rectangular structure (ext. dims. 17.05m E-W; 6.96m N-S) with the walls reduced in height (Wth 0.6-0.65m; H 1.2m), except the N wall which is incorporated into a handball alley. A pointed doorway in red brick in the N wall of the church communicates with the handball alley, and two memorials dating from 1798 and 1824 are incorporated into the outer face of the N church wall. The rectangular granite font (ext. dims 0.64m x 0.6m; H 0.41m; int. dims 0.43m x 0.42m; D c. 0.3m) from Kilmacree church (WX042-032001-), c. 600m to the S, is now at this church. (Hore 1925, 12 13)
