The National Monuments Service's description

Tintern abbey (WX045-027001-) was leasing 30 acres at Ballygarwy to John Power when it was suppressed in 1541 (White 1943, 359). According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) a decayed castle and 240 acres at Ballygarvy was the property of Sir Caesar Colclough in 1640 (Simington 1953, 179). The castle had reputedly been built by the Rossiters of Slevoy (WX041-015001-) (Jeffrey 1979, 135). It is depicted as a ruin on Valentine Gill's 1-inch map of Wexford dated 1811 on display in the Castle Museum, Enniscorthy (WX020-031003-) in 1994. It is situated in a farmyard on a slight E-facing slope, but it is not visible at ground level.
