The National Monuments Service's description

Depicted faintly as a rectangular structure (dims c. 20m E-W; c. 10m N-S) and described as the site of an Abbey in gothic lettering on the 1839 and 1925 eds of the OS 6-inch map. It was known as Abbeybraney (Lewis 1837, vol. 2, 364; O’Flanagan 1933, vol. 2, 355) and is situated on an E-facing slope with a N-S stream c. 50m to the E. Tintern Abbey (WX045-027001-) is thought to have had a grange here (Grattan Flood 1915, 5) and the Grange of Kylemore with 120 acres is amongst its possessions at the Suppression in 1541 (White 1943, 359). Kyle is the townland immediately to the E, but there is no evidence of any structure at ground level in rough pasture on the grounds of the old Abbey Ville house, and there is no reason to think it might be a church.
