The National Monuments Service's description

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) John Sutton, an Irish Papist, owned 60 acres at Ballysop in 1640, on which there was a ruined castle (Simington 1953, 185, 193). There are no other references to a castle here, but John Sutton and forty four dependents was listed for transporation to Connaught in 1653 (Hore 1900-11, vol. 6, 503). The precise location of a castle cannot be identified.
