The National Monuments Service's description

Archaeological testing (06E1091) identified undisturbed stratigraphy on a site at 18 Main St. South, on the W side of the street (Stafford 2010), which was further excavated (07E0232) when a well and a number of pits were recorded. The pits are dug into subsoil but some are quarried into bedrock, and may have been quarried for building programmes such as the town walls. (Purcell 2010).
