According to a Visitation by Thomas Ram, the Protestant bishop of Ferns, by 1615 the parish church of Kilscanlan had been united with Old Ross (WX030-053001-), but Jacob Prendergast was the curate, and the church and chancel were in repair (Hore 1900-11, vol. 6, 270). The church is marked faintly as a rectangular structure (dims. c. 15m E-W; c. 8m N-S) on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as the site of a church. It is within a graveyard depicted on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a rectangular scrub-covered area (dims. c. 100m E-W; c. 60m N-S), although all of this area might not be the graveyard. It is located on an E-facing slope with the N-S Owenduff River c. 120m to the E. There are no visible traces of a church or of burial in a pasture field.
