Located towards the bottom of an E-facing slope with a small S-N stream c. 180m to the E. Centre-line testing (E4067) in advance of the N25 New Ross by-pass identified several small areas of burnt stones in a clay and charcoal mixes (Doyle et al. 2010, 37-8), which was set aside for resolution as Arnestown 2. When this area (E) was excavated (E4111) it revealed three intercutting troughs and a spread of burnt mound material. A rectangular clay-cut trough (dims 1.2mx 0.9m; D 0.2m) had been truncated on its NW side by another trough (dims 1.2m x 0.9m; D 0.15m) and this was truncated at its N end by a third rectangular trough (dims 1.5m x 1m; D 0.25m). The troughs were beneath a spread of burnt mound material (dims c. 4m x c. 3m; T 0.08m). There were two pits (dims 0.63m x 0.42; D 0.15m: 1.43m x 1.11m; D 0.25m) in the vicinity (Area B) of the troughs, and the features were partly cut by field ditches. Fulacht fia (WX034-098002-) is c. 50m to the SSW. (Clark and Hackett 2010e, 10-12; Hackett 2013, 212-3)
