The National Monuments Service's description
St. David’s Well is situated in the valley of an E-W stream that enters the N-S River Slaney c. 1.2 km to the WSW. St. David was a 6th century bishop and the apostle of Wales Culleton 1999, 131). He is remembered for his struggles against the Pelagian heresy and for establishing St. David's in Pembrookshire as the principal church site in Wales. Further information is on the website (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_David) accessed on 12 Dec. 2012. The well is just W of the site of the church (WX032-019001-) and the graveyard (WX032-019003-), and is c. 40m S of the stream although there is a small E-W tributary c. 30m S of the well. The well is a circular feature (diam. 1.25m) surrounded by a masonry wall and with steps leading down to it. A stream from the well leads W to a small concrete bathhouse. The pattern was revived in 1910 when some remarkable cures were recorded and it is still held on the 1st February. (O’Broin 1982-3, 32)
