The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a slight rise at the W edge of a broad N-S ridge with the valley of the NW-SE River Sow c. 500m to the SW. This is the site of the parish church of Kilmallock within a raised oval graveyard (dims. c. 55m NW-SE; c. 45m NW-SE) defined by a masonry wall NE-S-NW, but the perimeter has been removed elsewhere and the graveyard extended to the NW-SE public road (max. dim. c. 40m N-S). According to a Visitation by Thomas Ram, the Protestant bishop of Ferns, in 1615 Garret McTege was the priest, and the church and chancel were in repair (Hore 1900-11, vol. 6, 272). Two small amorphous fragments of a wall foundation of the NW corner of a structure (dims. 6m E-W; 5m N-S) are at the centre of the graveyard. The site of St Mary's Well (WX032-006----), where patterns were held on the 15th August in the 19th century according to John O’Donovan writing c. 1840 (O'Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 356) lies c. 350m to the S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
