The National Monuments Service's description
Located just down from the summit of a slight col that is c. 300m to the E. Centre-line testing (E4067) in advance of the N25 New Ross by-pass identified a spread of broken and burnt stone that was set aside for resolution as Rathgaroge 1 (Doyle et al 2010, 43). It was fully excavated (E4130) when a rectangular trough (dims 2.5m NW-SE; 1.9m NE-SW; D 0.7m) with five stake-holes in the bottom and a cluster of four at the E corner underlay two layers of broken and burnt stone (dims 4.3m E-W; 2.9m N-S; T 0.1m: 8.8m N-S; 6.4m E-W; T 0.19m). A slight hollow (dims 8.8m E-W; 4.8m N-S) just W of the trough was used as a dump for trough waste and there was a shallow pit (dims 1.89m x 1.62m; D 0.32m) nearby. (Clark and Hackett 2010, 8-10; Hackett 2013)
