The National Monuments Service's description
From O’Mahony, A. (1987, 9-10, i) In the sedilia niche in the S wall of the Chancel are the remains of a coffin-shaped slab. The upper half only remains (Wth 0.31-00.49m; H 1.14m; T 0.07-0.13m) and the upper left side of the stone is broken. In the centre is a floriate cross and above this is carved a (female ?) head and neck in an oval hollow. There is a thick band around the neck. Along the edge of three sides of the slab are the remains of an inscription. Beginning on the left side, it reads:
HIC JAC (?).....PACE VERA MERCI PATER –OS- (Here lies... in true peace mercy (?) father.... Date: Late 13th or early 14th century. (Hunt 1974, vol. 1, 239, No. 269) (1)
(1) This partial reading is given with the aid of an older photograph from the Photographic Arcive of the National Monuments Service.
