The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a rise on a W-facing slope within the town of New Ross. The parish church of St Mary's (WX029-013002-) is within a rectangular graveyard (dims. c. 140m ENE-WSW; c. 55-75m NNW-SSE) defined by masonry walls. Infrastructural improvements to St. Mary’s church and graveyard, undertaken by Wexford County Council, were archaeologically monitored (E004672) from November 2016 to March 2017 by Catherine McLoughlin. The excavation of four burials – two females and two children and probably an eighteenth century family group, was required W of the present church. Indications of nine other burials were encountered, including a male buried face down who provided a C14 date of cal. AD 1165-1267. The outer face of the N wall of the medieval nave was also partly exposed outside the NW angle of the present church. (McLoughlin 2020)
