The National Monuments Service's description

Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Monroe 5 (Hardy et al. 2010, 16-17). It is situated in the slight valley of a NE-SW stream, which was c. 10m to the NW but is now channelled into a drain c. 150m to the NW. It was excavated (E4272) by C. Hardy who recorded a spread of broken and burnt stone (dims 6.71m N-S; 5.85m E-W; max. T 0.22m), which overlay a rectangular trough (dims 1.89m N-S; 0.83m E-W; D 0.38m). This had 15 stake-holes along the E and SE that probably represented a wind-break. There were no other features apart from a NE-SW channel immediately to the NW, which is probably the original stream. A sample from the mound material produced a C14 date of Cal. BC 1880-1695. The fulacht fia (WX026-090004-) is c. 80m to the SSE and the burnt mound (WX026-090003-) is c. 95m to the SSW. (McNamara 2012; Hardy 2013)
