The National Monuments Service's description

Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Kilcannon 4 (Hardy et al. 2010, 18-19). It is situated on a slight rise on the E-facing slope of a NE-SW ridge overlooking the N-S River Slaney, which is c. 500m to the E. Full excavation (E4194) by C. Hardy recorded three oval pits (dims 2.3m x 1.4m; D 0.4m: 1.2m x 0.84m; D 0.37m: 3.74m x 2.33m; D 0.34m), all of which contained some element of broken and burnt stone, and they probably represent the troughs of a fulacht fia. The secondary fill of the first pit produced a C14 date of cal. BC 1444-1315. The pits (WX020-096----) are c. 225m to the NNW. (Hull and McNamara 2011; Ruttle 2011; Hardy 2013)
