The National Monuments Service's description
Described as the site of a castle on the 1839 and 1940 eds. of the OS 6-inch map, and located on a gentle W-facing slope. This is a rectangular grass-covered area (dims. 49m N–S; 40m E–W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 1m) on the W and N sides and an overgrown outer, flat-bottomed moat (Wth 4–5m; int. D 2–3m; ext. D 1.2m at W) on all sides except the E, although most of the moat on the S side is filled in. There is an outer bank on the N side. (Barry 1977, 217, WX35)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
