The National Monuments Service's description
Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Ballycarrigeen Lower 3 (Hardy et al. 2010, 58). It is situated in a slight col between a rising incline to the SE and a slight rise c. 480m to the WNW. It was partially excavated (E4238) by M. McNamara when a kidney-shaped spread of burnt stone (dims 14m NE-SW; 6m NW-SE; T 0.4m) overlay an oval trough (dims 2.35m NE-SW; 1.2-1.4m NW-SE; D 0.25-0.3m) that had traces of a wood lining and seven post-holes and a stake-hole, mostly along its NW side. About 1m to the SE a rectangular pit (dims 1.54m NE-SW; 0.34m plus NW-SE; D 0.25m) may be another trough, but it extended outside the excavated area, as did some of the mound. The mound was cut by post-medieval features such as a NW-SE drain and a major N-S post-medieval ditch. The fulachta fia (WX011-071----: WX011-072----) are c. 105m to the N and c. 100m to the NE respectively. (McNamara 2012; 2013)
