The National Monuments Service's description
The manor of Cromwell was granted to Sir Richard Wingfield in 1613, but it was re-named Wingfield in a re-grant of 1618. A small house of two and a half storeys and a bawn had been erected by 1621, which appear to have survived the troubles of the 1640s (Loeber and Stouthamer-Loeber 1986, 188-9). Ballynebarnie and Kilcashel, amounting to 500 acres, was the property of Sir Edward Wingfield in 1640, and Ballynebarney also had a ruined castle (WX002-056----) and storehouse on it in 1655 (Simington 1953, 8, 30). The manor house remains unlocated.
