The National Monuments Service's description

Located 300m south of an existing Coillte forest road and is approached via mature forestry. Monument presently covered with gorse, thorn and semi-mature trees on the summit. The area is approached via a forest road which runs approx. 300m to the east of the site with mature spruce between the road and the monument. The monument consists of a very substantial earthen mound rising to a height of approx. 15m above the surrounding land, approx. 60m in diameter and roughly oval in shape. The mound is surrounded by mature spruce on all sides except the western half where recently planted ash trees are growing to within 10m of the monument. The summit of the mound is heavily covered by gorse, bramble and mature self-seeded trees. To the north of the mound there is evidence for possible quarrying where the mound has been partially dug away. A buffer zone has been established around the monument in advance of clear felling.
